27th May 2012 - The Matthew of Bristol sets sail from Plymouth.

Built in the mid 1990's The Matthew of Bristol is a replica of the ship sailed by John Cabot some 500 years earlier.

Attempting to sail to Asia, Cabot found landfall on the coast of Newfoundland.

The Matthew of Bristol has been invited to participate in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Thames Pageant in London on 3rd June 2012.

Leaving Bristol at Easter the Matthew has sailed to Padstow, Isles of Scilly, Falmouth and now she has visited Plymouth, bearthing in Sutton harbour.

Tonight she set sail from Plymouth making for Ramsgate in Kent, before getting ready for the River Pageant.

The planking is Douglas Fir above the waterline and larch below the water.

The planking around the stern of the ship is bent through 90 degrees in one direction and twisted through 30 degrees in another.
