With Kaprun, Zell am See forms part of the Europa Sports Region with winter ski and snowboarding and summer hiking. The Zeller Zee glacial lake offers watersports when it is not frozen over. To the west Zell am See is overshadowed by a 2000m alpine mountain, the Schmittenhohe.
